About Kinesiology

What is Kinesiology?

Traditionally kinesiology refers to the study of muscles and movement in the body and is widely used in this context by physiotherapists. However, within the natural health field the term kinesiology is used in a wider context. Here muscle testing is used to detect imbalances within the body. This may relate to any number of physical, mental and emotional problems.

Kinesiology draws on principles of traditional Chinese medicine. According to kinesiologists, muscles, organs and glands are connected by a network of pathways that include the nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems as well as the meridians used by acupuncturists.

Practitioners use gentle touch and massage techniques to restore balance so that the body’s natural healing processes can be implemented. Many are also practitioners of other therapies, such as homeopathy and nutritional therapy, and will make use of these approaches too.

There are about 50 forms of kinesiology, but all use the basic muscle testing principle. Applied kinesiology, practised by osteopaths, chiropractors, nutritionists, dentists and some doctors, was developed by Dr George Goodheart, an American chiropractor in the 1960’s.

Who can it treat?

Kinesiology can be used by everyone, any age group, gender or race. People of all ages can benefit from kinesiology whatever their level of fitness or health. Babies and children, the elderly and athletes can all benefit from regular kinesiology treatments. Before any treatments are undertaken an in-depth consultation will take place to ensure the suitability of the treatments to be undertaken.

What can Kinesiology do?

Classical Kinesiology is a truly holistic approach to therapy. Treating the person as a whole and working with the mind, emotions as well as the body to help improve a persons well being.

One of the major advantages of Classical Kinesiology is that it addresses the imbalances that are specific to the INDIVIDUAL. In other words, the treatment establishes the underlying causes of the symptoms and then corrects those imbalances according to the specific needs of the individual. Therefore, any treatment given is tailor-made and personalised for each client.

Since Classical Kinesiology is a holistic therapy, it can be used to bring genuine relief and help to a whole host of problems – from the minor to the major.

For Example:
Headaches, Migraines, Insomnia, Depression, Stress, Constipation, Digestive Disorders, IBS, Acne, Eczema, Psoriasis, Allergies, Asthma, Chronic fatigue, ME, Immune Disorders, Candida, Hormonal Imbalances, Menopausal symptoms, Joint and Muscle pain and so on !

The above list is merely to give an idea of the range of conditions Classical Kinesiology is able to deal with. In reality, there are many, many more ailments that may afflict any one of us – all of which may be helped using the skills and techniques of this therapy.
